Always a pleasure having J.J. Cale's music aboard, this one recorded at The Old Town Bar And Grill in Eureka, California.
He plays with Christine Lakeland and with the help of some electronic gadgets, and this dates back to 1983.

This is a great Swedish band, in sweet and perfect harmony with the
rock hard R&B, swing blues, jump blues, 50's-70's rock-blues -
that's the Interstate 40 Rhythm Kings in a nut shell.
From hits to unknown, from sweet ballads to the up tempo
blues rock, from old to new - and all presented for a dancing
audience! Interstate 40 Rhythm Kings will guarantee you a night
where you don't want to sit at a table, but a night with lots of
dancing, swing, and rock'n'roll!
I dont know much about the show itself but Im pretty sure it was a Swedish
radio broadcast. 17 smokin' tracks here !

Joan Osborne Live Wetland Preserve 12-31-92
Here is a great recording of early Joan Osborne, before the Lilith Fair crowd got their hand on her. This is on balls to the wall rock, R&B & soul shows!
This show goes out to one of the top tapers Dave Nolan. Dave was a
fixture on the taper seen from 1988 to his passing in 2010. Those of us
in the tri-state area who listened to his late night program on WBAI got
to hear all the sounds around the NY scene. Even though he worked a
full time job, he would record all sorts of shows (Blues Traveler, Spin
Doctors, The Dead, Moe & more), Then rush down to the studio and
play them on his 3:00am - 6:00am show. Some times he would have to save
the encore of a show for his next weeks show.I been pounding about posting this one.... Show is awesome but the bit rate is LOW 128kb
I decided to post it anyway in case maybe ,just maybe someone would have a better copy!
if you do please let us know!

''Triumphant, joyful blues-soaked R&B...
one of the most soulful, honest singers ever"
Blues Revue
Award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado sings and plays with soulful authority, never giving less than 100 percent.
He plays each and every show like it’s the most important gig of his career. He recalls the time when his friend, the great chitlin’ circuit singer Buddy Ace, put on the show of his life, singing his heart out, making three costume changes, all while playing at a casual house party. Salgado was floored. “I was just there playing with my band, hanging out in cut-offs and a t-shirt, and there’s Buddy treating the gig the same as if he was performing at the Apollo,” he says. From that moment on, Curtis vowed that every time he got on stage he would deliver his very best shot.
Salgado effortlessly mixes blues, funk and R&B with a delivery that is raw and heartfelt. He moves with ease from the tenderest ballads to the most full-throated stompers. Blues Revue says, “Salgado is one of the most down-to-earth, soulful, honest singers ever, and his harmonica work is smoking and thoroughly invigorating...rollicking, funky and electrifying.”
With his 2013 Alligator Records debut, Soul Shot, Salgado is reaching the largest audience of his career. The album helped Curtis sweep last year's Blues Music Awards, winning the "B.B. King Entertainer of the Year", "Soul-Blues Male Artist of the Year" and "Soul-Blues Album of the Year" awards.

Big Jack Johnson - Live Norwich Chenango Blues Fest 1996
Big Jack Johnson live on 1996 presented by The Rippin' Frog.
One commentator noted that Johnson, along with R. L. Burnside, Paul "Wine" Jones,
Roosevelt "Booba" Barnes and James "Super Chikan" Johnson, were "present-day exponents of an edgier, electrified version of the raw, uncut Delta blues sound.
In 1962, Johnson joined with Sam Carr and Frank Frost to form The Jelly Roll Kings and The Nighthawks. Johnson's first recordings as a vocalist appeared on the 1979 album Rockin' the Juke Joint Down, on Earwig Music. With Frost as the bandleader, they performed and recorded together for 15 years.
He has recorded both solo and as a member of the blues groups the Jelly Roll Kings and Big Jack Johnson and the Oilers (with poet/musician Dick Lourie). Johnson's album for Earwig, The Oil Man (1987), includes "Catfish Blues."
He performed and wrote "Jack's Blues" and performed "Catfish Medley" with Samuel L. Jackson on the Black Snake Moan film soundtrack. Daddy, When Is Mama Comin Home? (1990) presents social concerns. His last recordings were with the Corn Lickers and delivered some of his best ever work
Johnson died from an undisclosed illness on March 14, 2011.According to family members, he had struggled with health issues in his final years, worsening to the point that there were erroneous reports of his death several times in the weeks prior to his death.
Big Jack was a Blues force
R.I.P. and welcome to the big band in the sky!

Joan Osborne & The Holmes Brothers - Live Portland Waterfront Blues Fest July 6 2014
Rippin Frog filling up a request here!
Want a good recipe for soul music?
Here’s what you do: Start with vocalist, Joan Osborne, who has had pop music hits, performed on The Grand Old Oprey, toured with members of The Grateful Dead and yet never strayed from her roots in rhythm ‘n blues music. Now add a good, solid dose of The Holmes Brothers (Sherman Holmes, Wendell Holmes and Popsy Dixon), who have been playing their own unique blend of blues, gospel, soul and R&B since the late 1970’s. Once you have assembled all these ingredients, all you need to do is stand back and listen.
Great soul music will begin to happen instantly, as it did at this year Waterfront Blues Fest

Boise, Idaho is hardly the place anyone would conjure up as a hotbed of soul-blues. But for John Németh, it’s where his love for the genre began—and the starting point for a journey that’s taken him from his first gigs fronting a teenage blues band to five Blues Music Award nominations in 2013. It’s where this preternaturally talented son of a Hungarian immigrant gained his early chops on the harmonica, building on the style of blues heroes like Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson.
After logging over 1,000 concerts between 2007 and 2011, Németh released a pair of live solo albums showcasing his 25 most popular songs. Those discs, titled Blues Live and Soul Live, received five Blues Music Award nominations—the most ever for any live release. They also earned critical acclaim that places Németh in, as Nick Cristiano of the Philadelphia Inquirer put it, “a cadre of young and relatively young artists such as James Hunter, Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed, and Sharon Jones.”
In early 2013, Németh and his family moved to Memphis. “It is the epicenter for soul and blues,” Németh says. “The wealth of knowledge runs deep in the instincts of its musicians and its studios.” Németh landed in the perfect place: Electraphonic Studio, home of producer and musician Scott Bomar, who composed the film scores for Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan and produced Cyndi Lauper’s Memphis Blues. Backed by the Bo-Keys, Bomar’s group of veteran Memphis performers who made their names playing with the likes of Al Green, O.V. Wright, Rufus Thomas, and the Bar-Kays, Németh quickly laid down thirteen tracks that, as he describes it, “live in the style like I live in the style.”
In the early parts of their careers, members of the Bo-Keys performed in B.B. King’s orchestra, anchored the Hi Rhythm Section, nailed the unforgettable intro to “Theme From Shaft,” and survived the plane crash that claimed Otis Redding.
The Bo-Keys features alumni both of Stax Records and Hi Records, plus younger musicians who grew up loving that classic sound.
The band has garnered an Emmy award and a Grammy nomination. The Bo-Keys’ debut effort The Royal Sessions drew raves, and can still be heard in snippets on National Public Radio broadcasts.

July 3, 2014
Another year of WBF recordings. Recorded from KBOO FM in Portland, OR. A great lineup again this year. I was looking forward to Greg Allman's set, but he had to pull out due to sickness. Oh well, I wouldn't have been able to share him here anyway. Seems to be much more DJ talking this year, interrupting some music. I just left it in rather than trying to edit each show. Feel free to make any changes you wish for personal use.
I may need help with some of the set list's as I don't know all the bands.

The Frank Bey and Anthony Paule Band, eight pieces of soul-blues and musical genius, has been mesmerizing audiences up and down the West Coast since forming in 2006. Two CDs released in 2013 – You Don’t Know Nothing and Soul For Your Blues – have earned the band two Blues Music Award nominations, an invitation to perform at the prestigious awards ceremony, and a cover profile of Bey on Living Blues magazine.
All this well deserved attention has paved the way for two International tours during the summer of 2014. Frank Bey’s hypnotic vocals and Paule’s lofty guitar playing, are energetically supported by, Paul Olguin, bass; Paul Revelli, drums; Tony Lufrano, keyboards; Nancy Wright, saxophone; Steffen Kuehn, trumpet; Mike Rinta, trombone. Dramatic songwriting has The Frank Bey & Anthony Paule Band on a shelf all by itself, but if comparisons need to be made, they would be likened to Bobby Bland, B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding.
