I'm using an image from an unofficial release to illustrate this post though this share's files are from The Long Strait Walk To Wembley. A version made by Enlight in 2014 that comprises various sources and is supposedly the most complete of this concert.

Here's Mark Knopfler at the Theatre Antique in Vaison, France.
This show from the 3rd of August, 1996 was part of the Golden Heart tour, Knopfler's first solo tour and one that gave origin to some great quality recordings such as this.

Just for the record, this was -not- recorded in Newport, Rhode Island but in Atlantic City, New Jersey. And it was Sid Bernstein who produced the show, not George Wein.

It may have been part of the Newport Jazz Festival, which had festival venues in various locations along the US Northeast, but I'm pretty sure this was not one of them. Look at the newspaper clip carefully

I am not sure who is right or who is wrong here..
it came from a pretty knowledgeable source but no one is perfect I guess!
and It is quite a remarkable show !
