While expecting to see them live next Saturday on the 40th anniversary tour, I pulled up a Dream Theater show from the old days, during the Music in Progress tour.

The first time I heard Dream Theater was with Pull Me Under. A fantastic song I found. And then afterwards I got bored by their musicianship without soul, IMHO. They were not Rush. They were not Sons of Apollo. They had no songs anymore that appealed to me.
I don't really know their work very well, sincerely never was pulled to their music, just heard a few shows here and there. Tomorrow will be the first time to see them live as I got free tickets.
fear of prog metal can be treated...don't give up gentlemen :)
I like Opeth :)
Not quite the same...I actually agree with Derek. DT's musical muscle approach can lack soul. Saw Portnoy do a Dream Theater set in Loreley. He's quite a drummer! Enjoy the gig AR.
Thank you Titus, I know DT is often a case of love/hate for rock fans.
So where is the post-match report? Was it any good?
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed the show!
It was very good and...... long. Almost 3 hours including a short 15 minute break. I'm not very keen of the singer but luckily most of their music has long instrumental parts :)
If you have the time and since you are a player maybe you'll find this interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn-ta2bKkjg
I got halfway through :)
I enjoyed the keyboards and drums parts, then went fast forward.
