Yessir!
I never understood or found an explanation somewhere why for years and years Carl Perkins was just the guitar player in Johnny Cash's band Tennessee two or three. Was it for the money ? One for the money ? I'm not complaining about it, just a bit of a mystery to me.
Many thanks for this.
derek
got to start somewhere LOL
Derek: I saw the Johnny Cash show in Australia in 1971. The stage was crowded with Country super stars. Johnny & June, Mother Maybelle & the Carter Sisters, the Tennessee Three supported with a few top Nashville musicians, one of which was Carl Perkins. So my guess is Carl, who never reached the same level of international mega-stardom that Cash did, would have relished the opportunity to tour and play with such a line up. Also I guess they were all such good close friends and musically were all on the same page. And yes, the money would have been very good too. Carl did a set of his own hits during the show, which was outstanding. He wasn't advertised beforehand so when JC announced Carl on stage I was floored. What a night that was, to see so many legends in one go.
Thank you!!
