"Seals' guitar style is built on soul, speed, intensity and an unflagging sense of timing and blues invention. [He'll] take a note and torture it, attacking a lick and repelling it five different ways, building power as he goes."

For my money, Son was the best of the _______th generation of electric bluesmen. He could play, sing and everything in between. I miss him.
Thanks for this.
Thank you. This brings back great memories.
I was there. I was a regular at Wise Fools in the late 70's. When my girlfriend and I got there it was unusually crowded. Couldn't get into the band area in we managed 2 seats at the end of the bar. Behind us was a huge soundboard set up. Turns out to be Bruce Igluar from Alligator records and Ken Racic from WXRT. We sat next to a tiny black woman and got to talking. Turns out she was Son's sister. She said she was nervous and we were like why? She said she was never around this many white people before! We assured her not to worry and everyone here dug her brother. At about midnight I saw Johnny Winter walk in the entrance and security locked the door behind him. Fuck it I said I left her and my girlfriend at the bar and got a standing room spot 10 feet from the stage!
Wise Fool's Pub was iconic then. Does anyone have a John Lee Hooker set from there? George Thorogood April '78 was smoking (the Destroyer's 1st Chicago gig) . Mud

kewl
i never seen JLK from that venue and have a few bootlegs of his...
Would you please re-up this for me. I was at this show with Ken Rasek. I helped him with the sound. He gave me a cassette of this show but it was stolen. I got to meet JW for the first time and he was quite nice! BTW Rasek was the best audio engineer I have ever seen. He cut a direct-disc record of an XRT show of Brand X in Schaumburg and the sound was knee-buckling! I was never able to get another tape of this show from Ken because of some legal issues with his tapes between him and WXRT. I would absolutely LOVE to hear this again! Thank you for a fantastic blog! Your hard work is appreciated!
