Crack the Sky - Baltimore 1988

Crack the Sky
Baltimore 1988 (FLAC)

CTS are sometimes classed as prog.
I think that is very misleading.
I would describe them as being in the
same territory as Max Webster or 10cc.
It's quirky rock/pop & I like it.
This recording has the odd glitch
or two but is generally solid.

Hey Titus,
Thanks for the Crack The Sky. Always one of my favourite bands. I agree with you about not really being a 'prog' band. I think they got tagged that way because of the weird time signatures they sometimes use. Nice of you to mention Max Webster also (local band from eons ago - Kim Mitchell is now doing the afternoon drive on the Toronto 'classic rock' station). Here is some more Crack for you to try:

Can anyone tell me if there were any US prog bands in the 70's? (proper prog, not Kansas!) I'm struggling to think of one! I know of quite a few from later decades. I'm particularly fond of Echolyn. Anybody into them?

Thanks srcstcbstrd.
Both links are working Titus, try to copy them from the comment section into a new window and it will work. I think :)

Strange? I can't get them!
The links end:

Thanks AtticRock,
I was right there is a bit missing (the way I see the text anyhow)I've encountered this before.
For anyone else with the same problem the missing bits are:

Hmmm...interesting. I tried the link at the source and it opened ok. I then copy and pasted the link in the comments that I'm looking at now and again, the link worked fine.
Hey Anonymous - there are plenty of blogs out there with US Prog. Check out:
http://chrisgoesrocks.blogspot.com/
http://wcpaebelectricflower.blogspot.com/
http://orexisofdeath.blogspot.com/
http://merlinusesamantha.blogspot.com/

There are a ton more out there. When you visit a site, check the links provided by the blogger for many more sites.

I have the links now but when I view this comment section I only see part of them. (the box will not go full screen) Is it just me?chrisgoesrock is more psychedelia - I'll look at the others. thanks

Those are nice blogs but USA 1970's prog is thin on the ground. Who was the American Yes/Genesis/ELP? My mate recons the only people in America interested in prog are ex-pats or anglophiles!

Ok, I don't know why but I thought I'd do some more digging. Yes Titus, the American Prog scene from the 70's/80's is rather thin. Especially when bands such as Kansas/Styx/Rush (although Canadian) are to be considered 'Prog'. Try this for some more exploring:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:American_progressive_rock_music_groups

You can certainly look at this site and do some digging:
http://www.progressiveworld.net/main.html

I've tried to Google more but I've got to get to work.

Rush, Prog, surely not Titus, sure you refer to them as "Kiddie rock."

There was one US band I found called "The Load". Their 1976 album is quite good. They sound a bit like ELP/The Nice. The keyboard player is very talented but the occasional singing is rather weak. Still it shows there was prog in America! I'm off to work now too. TBM - get back in the creche!

I Am The Walrus
Let It Be do not download properly, any chance of reposting them?

Actually, it'd be great if this whole show could be posted to another file locker. I've loved these guys since their second album hit the airwaves for a week (or less). And "Safety in Numbers" is prog in my book.

Another one that should have been GREAT. (:_;)

Hey, "Link 1" goes to some Aerosmith mp3's, if you can perhaps find a corrected URL, that'd be nice. Disc 2 seems fine! Thanks.

AtticRock said...

Sorry about that Hazy Dave, it's fixed now!

I've been looking for this - saw them at Hammerjacks in Baltimore in the 80s. Disc 2 link is dead though - any chance of a re-up? Thanks so much!

AtticRock said...

I just updated link for part 2, enjoy.

Wonderful! Thanks so much for this post!

Any chance of a re-up on part 2? Part 1 is still up. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Thanks. I saw them at Hammerjacks in Baltimore on December 29, 1988. Not sure but hoping this is the show I saw.

After downloading the second cd and checking on setlist.fm I'm pretty sure the date of this recording is December 31, 1988. According to setlist.fm Crack The Sky only played five shows in 1988, all at Hammerjacks in Baltimore. The first two were March 25 & 26 and the final three were December 29, 30 & 31. During the band intros John Palumbo mentions that it was the final night of their three night run which could only be the December 31 show.

Hello. Would it be possible to upload Part 2? Thank you for considering my request.
